What is dental pain?
Dental pain originates from the mouth. The most common causes of dental pain are tooth infection, cavity, injury, or a cracked tooth. The treatment provided in this visit is meant to help manage symptoms while you wait to see a dentist. Treatment will not include the use of narcotics or other controlled substances.
Common symptoms
Symptoms may include:
- Sharp or throbbing pain
- Tooth sensitivity
- Pain when biting or chewing
- Swelling and tenderness in the gums
- Visible damage to the tooth, such as a cavity, fracture, or chip
- Pain that radiates to the jaw, ear, or temple on the same side as the affected tooth
